Who we are

Saint Mary the Virgin is a Parish of the Independent Anglican Church, Canada Synod. Sunday services of Worship using the Book of Common Prayer are held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 134 Emerson Street, Hamilton, Ontario at 8:30 a.m. Holy Communion is celebrated each Sunday except the first Sunday of the month, which is Morning Prayer.
Worship at Saint Mary the Virgin reflects the lengthy history of the the Church in England, with its Celtic, Anglo-Saxon and Norman foundations. We employ substantial ritual in our services, including vestments, bells and incense. We sing the proper chants (in English) to the ancient music of the Use of Sarum, which was the most widely used rite in the British Isles in the medieval period. The ordinary music of the Mass is usually the Communion setting by John Merbecke (1550).
On the third Friday of each month Mass is offered at 10:30 a.m. following the medieval rites of the churches of York and Salisbury (Sarum), in Latin and English.
Saint Mary the Virgin is a Registered Charity and all donations are tax deductible. (Cheques should be made out to ‘St. Matthew’s Cathedral’.)
